Q: How did you meet Hiram? A: I met Pat when I moved in across the road from him in 2009. We became friends despite him being 100 years older than me because of having a similar sense of humor. Always had fun talking to him and making each other laugh. Funny story he told me about when I asked him why he called himself “Pat” and not Hiram or Wesley. He said “I always hated the name Hiram. Teachers in school used to call me that. And my middle name is Wesley is just as bad. So I guess I wanted a new name when I got older”. So I kept asking him to tell me how he came up with “Pat” and teased him about being in the witness protection agency hiding from the mafia. He went on with this long story of not being able to get a job fresh out of the Navy, so he took a job delivering milk with a horse and cart. But they never gave him a map or addresses of where to go or how much milk to deliver at a house? The employer just looked at him and laughed and told him “Don’t worry. The horse knows what to do and where to go”. Pat was confused but got on the cart and the horse took him to a house and stopped. So Pat would get out and leave a jar of milk and get back on the cart. If the horse wouldn’t leave, Pat figured out that he had to leave two jars of milk at the house. Pat went on to tell me he had a lot of great times with that horse, how smart the horse was, what a good looking horse he was… I looked at Pat and said “ That’s a great story. But what does it have to do with you calling yourself Pat?” Pat looked at me and laughed “Well the horses name was Pat. I always liked that horse So I called myself Pat too”. Could never tell if he was messing with me.

I have mostly childhood memories of Uncle Pat. Fun times at Grandma's, the county and state parks. He was always up for fun. Then at a family reunion much later(I think he was 80ish) He did not hesitate to go down the water slide, with a big smile. Lots of joy in his personality and I'm sure his life. Now he's spreading all of that Joy and Energy on the Other Side. Much Love to family and friends. Cousin Linda
