Obituary of Terry "Red" E. Socia
Terry Edward Socia “Red”, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on March 10, 2025, at the age of 69, after a courageous battle with acute leukemia. He passed peacefully at Hurley Medical Center in Genesee County, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on February 20, 1956, in Bay City, MI to the late Edward "Sonny" Socia and his beautiful, survived Mother Norma E. Socia in Bay City, MI. Terry’s presence was a source of joy and laughter, and his legacy is one of love, humor, and adventure.
Terry attended Bay City Central High School, where he formed lifelong friendships. His work at Surath Scrap Yard exemplified his commitment to his hometown, where he was respected both as an employee and a friend. Terry’s leadership skills were evident when he served as President of Smith Manor in Bay City, MI, where his fairness and ability to unite people left a lasting impact.
A devoted family man, Terry was married to his loving wife, Amy K. Socia of Bay City, MI, with whom he shared many beautiful years. He took immense pride in his children, Alan (Renee) Socia and grandsons, Aspen and Jackson Socia; his son Edward Socia and fiancée Kendra Willman, and grandson John Raymond Socia; daughter Ashley Socia and granddaughter Lilly Lutz; son Terry Jr. fiancée Mandy Cunningham, and grandchildren Dallas, Sonny, and Harper Socia — were the light of his life. Terry was also a devoted sibling to his sisters, Linda (Butch) King, Donna (Dick) Cavanaugh, Becky (Timothy) Woodbury, and his brothers, Jack, Mike (Lisa), and Rick (Sherry) Socia. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Edward “Sonny” Socia, and his brother, Peter Michael Socia, whose memories remained close to his heart.
Terry’s love for the outdoors was boundless. Whether he was fishing, hunting, or spending time at the family property, Terry felt at home in nature. His ability to fix anything earned him the title of family handyman, a role he embraced with passion and expertise. Those who knew Terry will remember him for his quick wit, infectious laughter, and adventurous spirit. He had a remarkable ability to tell stories that brought everyone together, and his humor was a guiding light during even the most challenging times.
Terry’s legacy will live on through the love and laughter he shared with everyone who crossed his path. His family and friends will carry his spirit forward, cherishing the memories and lessons he imparted—especially the importance of family and living life to the fullest.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Terry made the world a brighter place just by being in it. His absence will be deeply felt, but his legacy of love, humor, and adventure will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew him.
