Dennis Brenay, Sr.

Obituary of Dennis Francis Brenay, Sr.

Dennis Francis Brenay Sr., affectionately known as “Den” to his friends and family, departed from this world on September 14, 2025, following a sudden cardiac arrest. Born on December 6, 1950, in Bay City, where he also passed away, Den's life was a testament to the power of love, humor, and friendship.

Den was a lifelong resident of Bay City, and Essexville, the places where he formed countless cherished memories and where he met his beloved wife, Linda (DeBolt) Brenay. Together, they built a life full of love and laughter, and they were blessed with a son, Dennis Brenay Jr., who was Den's pride and joy. His unwavering devotion to his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and he was also the proud owner of his best four-legged buddy, Charlie, who was a constant source of joy and companionship.

Den was the brother to Jean (and husband John) Davis and Carol Cliff, and he held special relationships with his sister and brothers-in-law, Dianne (and husband Pat) Johnson, Bill (and wife Karol) Debolt, and Janet Debolt. His life was further enriched by the presence of many loving nieces and nephews. As the family matriarch and patriarch, his mother and father, Betty and Elmer Brenay, along with his mother and father-in-law, Dorothy and William Debolt, preceded him in death, as did his brothers-in-law, Larry Cliff, George Kendall, and Donald Debolt, and sister-in-law Marion Kendall.

A proud graduate of Central High School in 1969, Den's dedication to his community was further demonstrated through his 30-year tenure at Wolohan Lumber Co., where he was not only an employee but a friend to many. His commitment to the company and his colleagues was unwavering, and he was esteemed by all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.

Den's interests were as wide-ranging as his generous personality. An avid fan of NASCAR, he could often be found cheering on his favorite drivers and discussing the finer points of the sport. He was also a man who found solace in nature, whether it was through fishing, hunting, or tending to his garden. His love for woodworking showcased his meticulous nature and creative spirit, turning simple pieces of wood into treasures that his family will cherish for generations.

It was Den's loving, funny, and friendly demeanor that drew people to him. He had a unique ability to light up a room with his humor and to make everyone feel welcomed and valued. His laughter was infectious, his smile unforgettable, and his kindness knew no bounds.

To know Den was to know a man of great character, whose legacy will be carried forward by those he loved and who loved him. As we bid farewell to a soul who was the epitome of warmth and compassion, we will forever remember the imprint he left on our hearts and the countless happy memories we shared.

Dennis Francis Brenay Sr. will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as his spirit will live on through the lives he touched and the love he spread so freely. May he rest in peace and continue to watch over us with the same devotion he exhibited in life.
