Obituary of Sandra Kay Meldrum
Sandra Kay "Sandy" Meldrum, a beacon of kindness and faith, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on February 23, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on January 4, 1943, in Bay City, Michigan to the late Anthony and Mildred (Esner) Pack, Sandy led a life marked by love, service, and a deep commitment to her family and community.
After graduating from T.L. Handy High School, she married Gary Meldrum on Friday, April 13, 1962 at Kawkawlin Community Church. They were happily married for over 50 years until his death in 2012. Sandy dedicated many years of her life as a cook for the Division on Aging, where her warm smile and delicious meals brought comfort to many. Her unwavering Christian faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her through life's challenges and triumphs. Sandy was actively involved in the Kawkawlin Community Church, now Foundation Church, contributing to the church's mission in numerous ways.
Sandy's commitment to her faith extended to her participation in the Order of the Eastern Star, Amaranth, and Job's Daughters. Her altruistic nature led her to volunteer with hospice and Camp Fish Tales, providing solace and care to others. This selfless work was a testament to her compassionate heart. She was also active with the Red Hatters and her “girls club”.
Those who knew Sandy would describe her as the embodiment of kindness, friendliness, and faithfulness. She was a friend to all and a stranger to none, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a comforting word. Her greatest joy was found in the laughter and stories shared during family gatherings, where she was the heart and soul of every celebration.
Sandy is survived by her loving children, Tammy (Tony) Ellis of Phoenix, Arizona, Michael (Shelly) Meldrum of Bay City, Michigan, and Toni Meldrum Garcia of Bay City, Michigan. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Leeanne Ellis-Lipczky, Michael Meldrum Jr., Andrew Meldrum, Dakota Garcia, and Diego Garcia, as well as her treasured great-grandchildren, Autumn, Shealynn, Isaac Lipiczky, and Ezra Garcia. She will also be fondly remembered by her siblings, Loretta (Ed) Waldo, Larry Pack, and Peggy (Bob) Dennis; brother in law, Randy Meldrum; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends; and God-daughter, Marcie Pashak, who were touched by her generous spirit. She was predeceased by her husband Gary Meldrum; sister, Judy Meldrum; sister-in-law, Margie Pack; brother-in-law, Rick Meldrum; dear friend, Linda Kostus; God-son, Corey Myrie; and half-sister, Kathy Moffett.
To quote the famous words of Helen Keller, "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Sandy's love and the memories she created with those around her have indeed become an indelible part of their lives.
As we bid farewell to Sandy, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of purpose and brimming with love. Her spirit, characterized by her enduring faith and boundless kindness, will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. Sandy's memory will forever be a blessing to her family, her friends, and the many lives she touched throughout her remarkable journey. A Celebration of Life is being planned for June, and complete arrangements will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to Foundation Church, Toni and Trish House, or a Hospice of the donor’s choice.
