Obituary of Carl Peter Moore

Please share a memory of Carl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Carl Peter Moore died on Friday, July 26, 2024, after a brief illness, while resting comfortably with a view of his cherished shipping along the Saginaw River.

Carl was born in Bay City on February 13, 1942. He resided in Bay City his whole life. He was a member of Corpus Christi parish. After graduating from Bay City Central High School in 1960, he enlisted in the United States Navy, and served his country with distinction until he was honorably discharged in 1965 as a Petty Officer 2nd Class, rated Engineman. Carl believed his service was among his most significant achievements.

He believed, though, that his crowning achievement was meeting and then marrying his beloved wife, Theresa Mary (Shea) Moore. Aside from the Almighty, nothing and no one was more important to him than Mo. Together they raised two sons, Scott and Kevin, and still managed to keep the honeymoon going for more than 56 years.

After being discharged from the Navy, Carl worked at Bay City Chevrolet until 1999, starting as an hourly worker and retiring as a general foreman in charge of the powerhouse. In 1977, Carl was nearly killed in an industrial accident that nearly severed his right arm. By the grace of God and a brilliant surgeon, he kept the arm. He worked tirelessly to regain use of his arm, engaging in physical therapy for some two years. His efforts resulted in restoring the usefulness of his arm and a golf game that was hard to beat. Coming face to face with mortality endowed Carl with boundless gratitude and it empowered him to share his strength with everyone around him.

Carl was a man of quiet but deep faith. In fact, he continually encouraged people to “keep the faith”, and he meant it. He said it often, because it seemed that he knew everyone in Bay City. He put that faith in action, quitting smoking, and then drinking, at a time when it was unfashionable and unpopular to abstain. As usual, Carl did what he believed was right and never counted the cost.

He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; as well as his sister, Barbara A. (Clifford) Barber. He was predeceased by his brother, James G. Moore.
