Martha passed away November 9, 2014 in San Diego California at the age of 94. She was born in Saxman Kansas on February 22, 1920 to the late John and Julia (Gosch) Brothers. She has been a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church for over 50 years, and worked as a secretary for Dow Chemical Co., American Hoist, and at Bay Medical Center from which she retired after 30 years of service. She spent the last 8 years in California with her son and daughter in law where she made new friends wherever she went. She was witty with a great sense of humor and loved sharing her stories and memories with everyone. She was active at the San Diego Senior Center, and throughout her life enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting, and flower gardening. She is survived by her children, Frank (Maria) Nelson of Spring Valley CA and Julie Nelson of Essexville MI. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; her church family; loving neighbors, Butch and Melissa Smith; and many special friends. She was predeceased by her husband Dixie James Nelson in 1995; 3 brothers, Owen, Sam, & Jay; sisters in law & brothers in law. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, November 17, 2014 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 206 Scheurmann, Essexville MI. Rev. Eric Stone will officiate with burial following in Floral Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday November 16, 2014 from 1-6 PM at the Hyatt Ewald Funeral Home, 700 N. Monroe St., Bay City, MI, and at church on Monday morning from 10 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, those considering an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to St. Luke's United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
