David Havercamp, age 73, passed away after a multi-year heroic battle with cancer on September 13, 2020 at the Toni & Trish Hospice House in Auburn, Michigan. Dave was born February 1, 1947, in Bay City, Michigan to the late Dorothy and Robert Havercamp. Dave was preceded in death by his second wife, Beverly Norgan. A 1965 graduate of St. John's High School in Essexville, Michigan and a Delta College graduate in mechanical engineering, Dave was employed for forty-one years as an engineer with General Motors, specializing in rubber dampers, where he developed numerous life-long friendships with coworkers and GM suppliers. Dave served honorably in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1969-1975, as a surveyor. As a "car man," Dave was a collector of Corvettes. Following in the footsteps of his innovative father (Havercamp & Sons Builders), Dave built many homes and from scratch custom-made furniture. As a resident of Manzanita Village co-housing community in Prescott, Arizona, Dave designed and helped build two wooden frame greenhouses. Dave is survived by his third wife Jan; her sons, Nicholas (Suzanne) Mehl, Chad Mehl, and Jessica (Damon) Lowe; three daughters from his first wife Dianne Jamrog, Patrica (Phil) Motylinski, Annie Hingston, Beth (Joe) Larsen; and children of his second wife, Doug (Lisa) Martin, Dan (Kristin) Martin, and Shelley (Kevin) Schalk. Dave also leaves behind siblings, Rick (Patti) Havercamp, Jim (Barb) Havercamp, Mark (Anne Marie) Havercamp, Rob (Cheryl) Havercamp, John Havercamp, Kathy (Larry) Willis, Sue (Kent) Garson, and Brian (Katie) Havercamp; and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. A PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICE will be held. The family will receive friends at the Hyatt-Ewald Funeral, 700 N. Monroe Street, Bay City, on Thursday September 17, 2020 from 9:30 – 11:00 AM. Face masks will be required. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Memorial Contributions to Toni & Trish House, P.O. Box 125, Auburn, MI 48611-0125.
