Shelby Lee Hofmeister, age 83 of Essexville, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and loyal friend, was born into eternal life on October 31, 2020.
Shelby was born in Sebewaing, Michigan on March 19, 1937, the daughter of the late Erroll Herbert and Iva Ruth (Otto) Davis. She was a graduate of Sebewaing High School and attended Northeastern Business College.
Shelby met Gene Olin Hofmeister of Unionville, MI. They fell in love and were united in marriage on September 22, 1958. Throughout her life, Shelby enjoyed her family, camping trips, Christmas, crafting and socializing with many of her friends. Earlier in her life, Shelby was active in the Humane Society because of her love for animals. Shelby looked forward to spending time with the ladies in her stamping group held at St. Luke’s Methodist Church. Shelby loved all her friends, neighbors in the community and always saw the best in people. Shelby gave a wonderful home to her beloved kitties, Itty Bitty and Lilly. Shelby will be forever missed, yet lovingly remembered for generations to come.
Left to carry on her legacy are her children, Heidi (John) Matuszewski and Holli Porterfield; seven grandchildren she loved very much, Hunter Porterfield, Haylee Porterfield, Sondra (Brian) Kern, Shawna (Brett) Walraven, Robyn (Josh) Pulver, Aaron Matuszewski and Jenesa (Steven) Niswonger; eleven great-grandchildren, Zander and Harper Walraven, Ava and Ezra Kern, Alexis, Jace, Jaxon and Ellis Pulver, Caleb, Nathan, and Macie Niswonger; sister Sandy Strieter; sister-in-law, Francis Davis; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Shelby was preceded in death by her husband Gene on November 22, 2012 after 54 years of marriage; brother, Donald Davis; brother-in-law, Barry Strieter; brother-in-law, Gordon Hofmeister; sister-in-law, Nancy Hofmeister; son-in-law, Ronald Shillair; and son-in-law, Douglas Porterfield.
