Shirley Sermon, age 89, passed away Tuesday morning, November 17, 2020 at Covenant Hospital. Shirley was born July 29, 1931 to the late Thomas C. Newsham and Bertha M. (Cobb) Newsham. Shirley was a graduate of Handy High School. On January 7, 1952, she married John Arthur Sermon Jr., and they were married for over 60 years, until his death in 2012. Shirley was a member of the Essexville Baptist Community Church. Surviving family members are her children, John (Jackalyn) Sermon, Sharon (Neil) Ramseyer, Diane Bracher, Mark (Flora) Sermon, and David (Sanjuanita) Sermon. Shirley also leaves 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Michael Sermon in 2012, and her brothers and sisters, Thomas (Irene) Newsham, William (Shirley) Newsham, Leona (Wilbur) Brandmair, Ruth (Gerald) Basham, Isabelle (Erston) Butterfield, Albert (Catherine) Robetoy, Arlie Robetoy, Marguerite Sweeney, Edward Weiser, and Virginia Fenstamaker. A private funeral will be held at a later date. A special thanks to Brookdale Assisted Living and From the Heart Assisted Living for their compassionate care.
