Harrison, Kathrine
Bay City, Michigan
Our loving mother passed away Sunday, January 24, 2021, at the age of 99. She was born on June 28, 1921 to the late John Logan Williams and Ethel Beatrice Williams in Harrison, Michigan.
Kathrine was a career elementary school teacher, teaching in the Saginaw Public School System and in Tullahoma, Tennessee during World War II. She held several teaching positions in the Bay City Public School System, including those at Dorland, Farragut, and Washington schools. She was a revered teacher and took great pride in the success of her students. After retiring, she continued to be a life-long learner; was an avid reader of a variety of books, newspapers, and magazines; and kept daily diaries for the rest of her life.
She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. In addition, she traveled through much of the United States and other countries, including Britain, Scotland, Ireland, Germany and Canada. She appreciated the Fine Arts throughout her life, listening as a child to radio broadcasts of opera, and later becoming a supporter of the New York Metropolitan Opera. She also enjoyed attending Shakespeare events with friends and relatives, and cheering on her Detroit Tigers, Red Wings, and Pistons teams.
Kathrine was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church in Bay City, and remained active with her Christian faith throughout her life by enjoying daily devotional readings, bible study, and fellowship with others. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation, the Michigan Education Association, and AARP.
Kathrine is survived by her three children, John Harrison of Eugene, Oregon, Rebecca (Joe) Harrison of Bay City, and Douglas (Laura) Harrison of Bay City; her brother, Robert (Lou) Williams; and her special friend, Carol Sampson.
Kathrine was predeceased by her husband Cass Miller Harrison on July 14, 1998, and her brothers, Evan Williams, John Williams, Orville (Sylvia) Williams, and Vernon (Peg) Williams.
Special thanks is extended to her friend, Carol Sampson, for the many years she provided Kathrine with care, companionship, and Christian fellowship; first in her home and later when she moved into assisted living. Her contribution to our mother’s quality of life is appreciated and will never be forgotten.
Immediate interment will take place at Green Ridge Cemetery in Bay City, with a Life Celebration being planned for a future date.
